Frequently Asked Questions

Q.) HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO RENT A CAR OR DRIVE ON A GUIDED TOUR?

A.) You must be at least 23 years old to rent a car or drive on a guided tour.

Q.) WHAT DO I NEED TO DRIVE MYSELF OR RENT A CAR?

A.) You must have a valid driver’s license and the appropriate international driving permit (Geneva Convention on Road Traffic 19 September, 1949) or JAF Translation, and your passport. You must also have a good experience driving in Japan and/or driving right-hand or left-hand drive vehicles depending on the car you select.

Q.) HOW DOES A SELF DRIVE TOUR WORK?

A.) You will drive the car you selected in a convoy while following a tour guide who will be driving a separate car in front of you. The route is decided by us, you just need to follow along.

Q.) HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK?

A.) Most of our customers book WELL in advance, sometimes as early as a year before. We suggest booking at least 2-4 weeks in advance. While we can deal with last minute bookings, availability (especially for Daikoku tours) can be scarce.

Q.) CAN YOU PICK ME UP AND DROP ME OFF AT MY HOTEL?

A.) No, we do not do hotel pick ups and drop offs. We have a meeting point in the city where we start and finish all our tours.

Q.) WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A RENTAL AND A TOUR?

A.) For a rental, you will pick up the car and are free to drive yourself wherever you’d like for the time period selected. On a guided tour, a staff member accompanies you and guides you on a pre-selected route either from the passenger seat or with a lead car in front of you.

Q.) WHAT IS THE BEST DAY TO GO TO DAIKOKU?

A.) The busiest times at Daikoku are Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday morning.
